Making Troops Feel at Home for the Holidays | News

In Monroe County Sunday, it was all about helping our troops overseas.

Operation Touch of Home did just that.

Folks collected items for our service men and women to make them feel at home this holiday season.

One by one, volunteers loaded up a truck in East Stroudsburg with bags full of goodies all for our service men and women in Afghanistan.

Bags full of snacks, batteries, and even a small Christmas tree.

Some also wrote cards with nice messages.

“I wrote, I wish them well and God bless them and may they all come home to their moms,” said Mary Casebolt of Stroudsburg.

This is all part of Operation Touch of Home," an organization in Monroe County that has collected items for our troops overseas for the past eight years.

People donating could drop off items at four different locations in the county, including the Walmart in East Stroudsburg.

“We appreciate the service and sacrifices, they are giving up, especially around the holidays, the time with their friends and family. We just want them to know we're thinking about them, let them know we care and we appreciate the job they're doing,” said Dean Green of Operation Touch of Home.

People who came out to drop off donations, know exactly how much it means to our men and women fighting for our country overseas.

“They're going to feel good, they're going to feel like they're being remembered here at home, they won't feel so lonely, they'll feel loved, loved, just really loved,” said Myrna River of Bronx, New York.

“They're so thankful when they do get things from home, that it means so much to them, it means a lot when they can share it with other people too,” said Tammy Hess who has a son in the Navy.

The collection ended this afternoon, and the items will be shipped out Monday morning to our troops in Afghanistan.
