Woman Stabbed to Death was Pregnant | News
We now know the identity of the woman who was stabbed to death in Monroe County.
Police sid Krystle Vasquez, 24, of Stroudsburg, was about eight months pregnant when she was stabbed to death in her home.
Police arrested Ruben Velazquez, 39, of Stroudsburg, and charged him with homicide and homicide of an unborn child.
Edward Schmitt lives across the street from the scene, and said Broad Street is normally very quiet.
"It's very unusual and it's very disconcerting. A tragedy. More so when you tell me that the woman was pregnant and she lost the baby. That's terrible," Schmitt said.
Officers said Velazquez was her boyfriend, but do not believe he is the father of the baby.
Investigators said Velazquez called police Friday afternoon and said he stabbed his girlfriend.
When responders arrived at the woman's apartment building on Broad Street, police said Vasquez was dead, with a stab wound to the throat.
One day later, neighbors are still talking about the shocking events.
Carol Fleming said, "My son knew the coroner's car. At that point we knew it was really bad."
Velazquez is locked up in Monroe County without bail.
Police said an autopsy on Krystal Vasquez is scheduled for Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
